The Giver of Life and Livelihood. The scriptures offer profound insights into the nature of the Divine as a provider and sustainer of life. Psalm 104:28 articulates this beautifully, stating, “When you give it to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are satisfied with good things”. This verse encapsulates the idea that all creatures depend on the Divine for their sustenance, which is generously provided.

The Sustenance of Life

“You open Your hand and satisfy the desire of every living thing”

Psalm 145:16

Similarly, Psalm 145:16 echoes this sentiment, It is a powerful reminder of the abundance and care that the Divine extends to all forms of life, ensuring that their needs are met and their desires fulfilled.

Trust in Divine Providence

“So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well”.

Matthew 6:31-33

Matthew 6:31-33 addresses the human tendency to worry about basic needs by urging trust in the Divine. This passage encourages prioritizing spiritual pursuits and moral living, with the assurance that physical needs will not be neglected.

The Giver of Life and Livelihood.

In these scriptures, we find a call to recognize the Divine as the ultimate source of life and provision. They invite us to live with gratitude, to trust in the Divine’s providence, and to extend the same generosity we receive to others in our community.

A Prayer of Gratitude and Trust

O Divine Giver of Life and Livelihood,
We stand in awe of Your boundless generosity,
Your hands open wide, providing for all creation.
You know our needs before we speak,
And You call us to live in trust rather than in worry.

Help us to seek Your kingdom first,
To live righteously under Your guidance,
And to rest in the knowledge that our livelihood is in Your hands.
May we always be grateful for Your provisions,
And may we share generously with others, as You have shared with us.

Amen.
